How to Get Involved
Reporters

All young people between the ages of 10-18 are able to act as Reporters. We welcome stories from Foreign Correspondents and Reporters from other parts of the UK.

To protect the integrity of the project stories can only be submitted through Registered Bureaux.

Stories, interviews and images can be submitted into one of seven Newsrooms. These become sections in the newspaper. Remember that The Paper is not a daily or weekly paper and will not be a good vehicle to advertise local events. Think of The Paper more as a Sunday newspaper requiring interviews, opinion and investigative reporting.

The newsrooms or sections of The Paper are (the notes are only guidance):

  • Current Affairs: opinion and comment on local, national and international events. Interviews.

  • Culture: stories, reviews and opinion of music, the arts and cultural facilities. Creative writing.

  • Lifestyle: stories and opinion influencing lifestyle, health, reviews of fashion and technology. Humour. Interviews.

  • Sports: stories and opinion on sports activities, facilities, sporting achievements and training. Interviews.

  • Work & Careers: stories about careers, jobs and working life. A Science page. Interviews.

  • Learning: stories about education, learning experiences and courses. Interviews

  • Features: longer stories and investigations.

We hope these are flexible enough to allow Reporters to write about what they want.

Images & Photographs:
Images and photographs associated with stories need to be of high quality. Digital cameras of greater than 3.5 megapixels produce the resolution we need but also produce very large files. If you have access to such a camera please send images to CEBLO on CD. If you do not have access to such equipment, then hard copy of images and photographs needs to be sent to CEBLO. These must be accompanied by a print out form and code number that is made available to you when you submit copy for which there is an associated image. The hard copy will then be scanned professionally for colour separation and publication.
See Contact Us page for the address details to which images should be sent and please allow time for postage

If you would like to submit a story but do not have access to a Registered Bureau, this document will provide you with the information you need.

The Editorial Team

Each edition is edited by a group of 20 young people. If you are able to attend the training days in Cambridgeshire and are interested in Journalism, the Media, Photography and design you can apply to become part of this team. You will be provided with four days training and access to Mentors from the profession.

Bureaux

Schools, colleges and learning centres such a Libraries and Youth Clubs are able to act as Bureaux. They will then be able to submit stories and images, from Reporters, for consideration by the Editorial Team.

There must be a named person, responsible for submissions from a bureau, who is contactable by email and telephone.

An annual registration fee of £50 is required to help maintain the project. A pack of materials will be sent out upon receipt of a completed registration and fee.

Mentors

Mentors are there to support the young people on the Editorial Team for each edition. Ideally they should be able to attend some of, or part of, the training days. They must provide contact details so that our young Editors can ask for their advice, ideas and contacts. Mentors will be journalists, photographers, writers and cartoonists or have expertise in a particular field such as science, the arts or sport.

Mentors must register with CEBLO and will be required to undertake a police check using CRB Disclosure. There is no charge for this.
